After Izaak went to bed I dug out my laptop. My mind was racing too much to be able to sleep with everything that was going on lately. First confessing to Toby, then the letter from Sage, then the sex (which we still hadn't discussed), now Violet getting too friendly. Would I ever get a break?
Toby was definitely pushing for me to not run away, and our new connection had me more attracted to the idea of staying. He still wanted me to confess, but since that wasn't on the table I continued toying with the idea of blaming someone else. But who?
I opened my web browser and Google popped up. Winters Corporation yielded many results, including articles about his arrest and alleged crimes. I shivered at his sinister grin that popped up in the image results. My stomach twisted in disgust.
If I was going to frame someone, a co-worker would be a good start. So I clicked through the company info, looking for any potential target, but it was hard to figure out who to choose. After a few minutes on the website, I switched to social media, sifting through pictures of old sleezy white guys before noticing a familiar face suggested to me.
Vanessa Ramirez, Administrative Assistant at Winters Corp
I couldn't remember where I'd seen her before. Maybe we'd crossed paths because of Gabe's association with her boss? I clicked on the photo and scrolled down her professional page. She'd worked at Winters Corp for three years, and before that worked **somewhere**. Then I saw she's a current student in Fraud Examination and Financial Forensics — ha, ironic. Maybe that would help with framing her.
I kept scrolling, finally landing on her current internships and that's when it clicked: I knew her from Toby!
The bitch that Violet fought at paintball a few weeks ago!
Shit, I couldn't go to Toby about this. He'd never help me set up his friend.
But she was just the perfect target. With her background in white collar crime, her artistic nature, and her young age. She'd probably still even get off pretty easily. And it could also be payback for Violet... maybe she could help me?
My stomach churned at that thought and caused me to immediately dismiss the idea. I can't tell her.
