The high from playing with Izaak and Chloe came to a crash the next morning when my alarm went off. I must've snoozed for thirty minutes before I realized what I was doing, rushing for a quick shower and skipping breakfast. Starbucks was on the way.
I took a few hits off Molly's vape pen when the cravings for old bad habits crept in. It was hard to stay focused on work, especially when that was a source of most my current stress. Gabe was being a dick all day, and Chloe was kinda distant. I wondered if our wild night had given her a drop, too.
The next few days I stayed mostly to myself. I was grumpy and frustrated and still torn about what to do with the Winters case. His court date was quickly approaching, so I avoided Gabe at all costs. I hoped he assumed I was hard at work on other cases, which I usually was. But my work was dwindling and eventually I'd have to talk to him again.
It was almost time to just tell him, though I toyed with the idea of talking to Chloe instead.
