beginning ch5 chloe

"Let's play 20 questions!" Vanessa suggested as our ride felt like an eternity of listening to Violet's endless bitching and ruminating over what could have happened that I'd need to contact Sage.  I hadn't had the privacy since I'd received the anonymous message, but was also avoiding it, anxious about what the conversation would bring.  Most likely, someone was trying to find me.

"No one wants to play your childish games, sis."  Violet gave an exaggerated yawn.

"Come on!  It'll be fun, we can learn more about each other!  I found a website with questions!  I'll go first... oh these are too basic, let me get a juicier questions."  She scrolled through the page on her phone and Violet groaned to get her to hurry.  "Oh!  Here we go."  Vanessa looked up and then at me.  "Chloe, what gets you fired up?"

I snapped out of my thoughts to glance at her.  She was younger than the rest of us, short, and a little preppy.  Her smile seemed fake, and eyes accusing, as if she was trying to catch me in a lie before I even answered.  What did this woman have against me?

*idk, think of an answer*

Violet clapped, laughing and admiring my dirty deed, while Toby and Vanessa looked at each other, mouths dropped.  Molly seemed unfazed, clearly having heard crazier, and Izaak acted as if he wasn't paying attention.  

"That's nuts!  Okay, your turn to ask."

Games like this were not my thing, but at least it would help get me out of my head for a while.  Vanessa passed me her phone and I scrolled through the questions, trying to find something half-interesting.  Then I glanced around the vehicle, my eyes finally settling on Violet.  [she asks violet to get the most passionate answer so she has time to scroll through vanessa] "What's the dumbest thing you've ever done that actually turned out pretty well?"

She scowled but then smiled, happy to share her story, probably exaggerating the details.  I held onto Vanessa's phone and sort of glanced through her info to see if she had anything on me.  For some reason I got a feeling that she did.  But then I had to pass the phone to Violet so she could find a question.
