still trying to write this ramon/lexi scene

I had a death wish. That’s the only thing that could explain how I acted with Ramon.

“Dude, chill.  It’s not like anyone died or anything.”

He looked at me with these wide eyes like he had heard me incorrectly.  “I will not ‘chill.’  You took my daughter.  In my truck.  During rainy season.  Without telling anyone.”

Normally, hearing my offense repeated back to me would make me feel something.  But my armor was too strong today.  I wasn’t going to allow Ramon to chip away at it.  “Yeah, I know what I did.”

“You are not sorry.”

I just shrugged, which was probably not the answer he was looking for.

He grumbled under his breath then opened the truck door.  “Get in.”

My eyes naturally rolled and I pointed towards the tractor, where Gabi was eagerly helping them attach chains to the truck.  “I should go help out…”

“You’ve done enough.”  His eyes narrowed and voice lowered.  “Move.  Or I will move you myself.”

Suddenly I felt small, a little nervous, and like I had no other option but to comply.  Sure, I could try to call his bluff, because could he really move me inside the truck himself?  Part of me was curious to see (the deathwish part), but my self-preservation kicked in.

Beto’s truck was an older model, just one bench seat that stretched from one door to the other.  It smelled of leather and sweat.  There was absolutely zero tinting on his windows.  I glanced over at the crew, hoping no one was paying enough attention to notice what was about to happen.

Not that they didn’t all know anyway.  This is just how it is here.

Ramon opened the driver’s side door and climbed in, not bothering to close his door (so much for any privacy!), scooting immediately to the middle of the seat.  “Over.”

I hesitated enough for him to grab my upper arm and start pulling me up.  “Wait… Ramon…”  My tummy suddenly was churning and my heart pounding.

“No.”
