Izaak went to the driver's side while I helped Violet in. "He's so beefy and protective of you. I bet it's mad hott when he spanks you."
I could faintly hear Izaak in the background, making a call to the police. "Suspects are three hispanic males, all wearing jeans, one with a backwards red cap and red hoodie."
"What the fuck is he doin'?" Violet said as she slid into the seat. "Bro, don't be a narc!"
"Yes, he has a gun and they are possible drug dealers."
"Bro are you serious?" Then she started yelling, "he's lying!" while trying to snatch the phone away from him. It was too late because Izaak had already given the address and info and soon hung up the phone.
"What the hell are you doing?" he shouted at Violet.
"Call them bitches back and tell 'em false alarm! Don't rat out my boys."
'Your boys were trying to kill you."
"Fuck this, I'm out of here." She tugged on the door handle, punching it when it wouldn't open. "Unlock the door!" she demanded.
Calmly, Izaak grabbed her arm and told her to chill. "I promised Molly I was bringing you home."
"Fuck Molly, who cares?"
"Violet, I'm warning you."
She kept trying to escape, attempting to unlock the door herself (but the childproof locks were on). Izaak twisted her arm back a little to put her in an uncomfortable position. It only stopped her for a moment, until she said cockily "that doesn't hurt." So he pushed her arm farther back, even farther until she was pleading, "okay okay!"
"You're going to sit back, put on your seatbelt, and behave, do you understand?"
"Yes!"
"If I have to pull the car over, I'll handcuff you and throw you in the back."
"Can you just handcuff me?" she laughed, clearly joking, but Izaak called her bluff and twisted her arm more, reaching for his handcuffs. "Ayy, I mean okay! Fine! I'll behave!" Too late. The cuffs were out and now he pushed her back, clicking the metal object around her left wrist, then grabbing her right and enclosing it as well.
"Buckle her in," he ordered me. My heart was pounding as I crawled to the backseat, imagining that Violet would be as pissed as Izaak, but she was grinning.
"I love the rough treatment," she half-whispered, giggling. I reached for the seatbelt, a little high myself, off the adrenaline especially. When it clicked and I pushed myself up, Violet and I locked eyes. "Hey, you saved my life, bro. I owe you. I'll pay you back."
"No worries," I mouthed and hopped back into the front seat. As Izaak sped off, a patrol car pulled up to the group of guys and Andy looked over at us with a glare. A shiver crept down my spine at the reminder of Izaak's government affiliation. If it came to it, he'd choose his job over me, and I couldn't blame him. The look of disappointment he wore during our ride made me consider that running away may be a better option than getting caught while living with him. Would I be able to handle it if he found out my past?
The question lingered in my mind as we turned the corner and Violet started chatting, clearly overwhelmed with boredom, and I entertained her, much to Izaak's disapproval.
When we arrived, Izaak parked the car on the street, urging me to go ahead as he pulled Violet out of the car. He didn't care about the couple smoking a cigarette outside and didn't hide the handcuffs as he dragged her through the front door. Violet was stumbling a little, much drunker than me, looking like she was about to pass out.
"You don't have to be so rough with her," I scolded Izaak when we ducked into the elevator.
He glared at me. "Not now, Chloe." The firmness in his voice made me gulp. Also that he called me by my first name, not 'kiddo' like normal.
Molly was relieved when we knocked on the door, Toby a few steps behind her, messy hair and worried face. "I'm so glad you're okay!" our red-haired friend said, giving me a hug first, then Violet. She wasn't surprised about the handcuffs, just kind of smirked and said, "she gave you a hard time, huh?"
"It's time for an intervention," Toby muttered. "This is getting ridiculous."
"Fuck you and your interventions," Violet howled, then started laughing again. Izaak didn't let her stay for conversation, treating her exactly like a criminal. He dragged her to the back of the apartment where she slept, and I followed, not really sure what else to do and also kinda curious if he'd end up spanking her. When we arrived, he finally unlocked the handcuffs and put them back away.
She rubbed her wrists as she stumbled to the tv, flipping on the playstation. Izaak's nostrils flared and I imagined his internal battle. He'd expected her to go straight to bed, but Violet wasn't that easy. But was it worth it to fight?
"Hey," he said firmly, standing in front of the TV. "If you leave this apartment again tonight, I'll take you to the station myself. Do you understand?"
Violet laughed. "Fuck off, Izaak."
He shook his head with a sigh and we walked out, not speaking until we were back in the living room with Molly and Toby. Then it was interrogation time.
What happened? What did she use? How much? Did she gamble? And lose? Is she in too deep? What are we going to do with her?
"It's time to tell Gabe," Toby said.
My new boss radiated no-nonsense disciplinarian, and the thought of him as Violet's spanker made me shiver. He didn't like excuses or unreasonable behavior and had a fuse about the size of Violet's. But I’d love to be a fly on the wall for their confrontation.
"Thanks for being with her, Chloe… I know she can be a bit much sometimes." Molly took my hand in hers and smiled.
"It's fine, we had fun. I'm a little drunk, though. And tired."
With that, Izaak put an arm around my shoulder and we said goodbyes, then left.
In the car he didn't speak to me for a while, and I didn't mind, too drunk and high to feel his negative energy. I smiled at the colorful lights as we sped past the city. My first full week working for a bossy rich guy had ended reasonably well, I’d made a few friends, and even got the rush of stealing again. Life is good!
Until my roommate heaved a sigh and began his lecture. "Are you not even a little sorry for what you did?"
"What did I do?" I asked innocently, turning to look at him with a half smile, batting my eyelashes.
Nostrils flaring as he gripped onto the steering wheel, Izaak took a deep breath to calm his anger. "If you’re trying to change to a healthier lifestyle, does anything you did tonight seem like a good idea?" He turned to look at me as he stopped at a redlight. "And I know you've done more than just drinking."
Eyes widened, I looked away. My cute puppy face didn't work, so maybe I could take the Violet approach. "You can't prove that."
“Are you really going to lie about this?”
I folded my arms and looked at him with attitude, rolling my eyes. It was hard to keep myself from laughing. The angry girl look just didn't suit me well.
With a sigh he said, “It’s probably better to talk about this in the morning after our workout.”
“I’m getting tired of your fucking workouts." Not to mention it was already after midnight… there was no way I’d get up so early!
Izaak didn’t respond for a moment, brows furrowed like he was deep in thought. “I don’t think I like this influence Violet has on you.”
“I think you’re going to have to get over it,” I grumbled. Then in response to his glare I added, “and thanks for saving us tonight.”
